- 【Basic Rules and Precautions for Pedestrians】
・Always use the sidewalks.
・Walk on the far side away from the road if there are no sidewalks present.
・Strictly follow traffic lights even when in a hurry.
・Be aware of the traffic lights for pedestrian crossings. Cross when the signal for walking is on. Do not attempt to cross once the signal begins to flash on and off. When crossing, be decisive whether you are going to cross or not.
・For in button-operated pedestrian lanes, press the button and wait for the walking signal before crossing.
・Before crossing, look both ways and confirm if there are any moving and stationary cars for safety.
・Be sure to only cross at pedestrian lanes. Avoid jaywalking.
・Avoid diagonal crossing.
・Do not cross the street in between parked vehicles.
・If you want to cross the road after getting off a car or bus, do not cross right in front or back of the vehicle to avoid accidents.
・At railroad crossings, stand in front of the track and look both ways before crossing. Do not cross once you hear the signal for the incoming train, or the gate is going down.
・Try to wear brightly-colored clothing when walking at night so drivers are able to notice you.
・On rainy days where visibility is poor, wear brightly-colored raincoats so drivers can easily notice you. Also, avoid crossing suddenly since roads are slippery and it might take time for vehicles to stop fully.
