Food Culture (Yoshoku or Western style food)

Unlike the authentic taste of Western cuisine, yoshoku is a Western-style dish that is adjusted for Japanese taste. It has become popular since the Meiji era and is still liked by Japanese families. Yoshoku can be often eaten at family restaurants.

Have you ever eaten one of these yoshoku dishes?

  1. 1). Curry and rice: In comparison to Indian curry, Japanese curry rice has a sweet taste.
  2. 2). Omurice: A dish where omelet is served with chicken rice.
  3. 3). Hamburg: A meat dish with sauce that came from Germany’s “hamburg steak”.

4). Cream korokke: Based on the French croquette, it became a Japanese croquette.

5). Pasta: A special Japanese taste was created from Italian pasta. Recently, mushrooms and natto pasta are being served.

What do you think of yoshoku compared to the authentic taste of food in your home country?
