Separating Work and Private Life

Mixing of work and your personal life is generally frowned upon here in Japan. Wages are being paid with each hour while you are staying in the company, so it is best to refrain from doing anything that is not related to your work. Do avoid careless sharing of information or pictures through social media platforms because confidentiality is strictly observed.

The following examples are actions where work and private life are mixed. Let us be careful not to do these following actions.

・Using the company’s properties for private use or taking items home without permission

・Avoid posting work details, photos, business partner, or client information in social media platforms such as Twitter. Refrain also from talking about work in public places such as inside a train.

・Using the company’s computers to view homepages that are not related to work

・Sending personal emails using your company email address

Doing the following examples from above will cause an unpleasant relationship with the people at your workplace, ultimately leaving a bad impression. Let us strive to achieve a healthy working environment by following company rules and properly separating work from personal life. This also includes the illegal use of the company’s fees for personal needs.
