Taking Pictures Using Mobile Phone

When using Social Networking Sites or SNS (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, or Youtube), it is fun to upload and share your pictures or videos for other people to watch. However, taking photos or videos of other people and posting it on SNS without permission is a criminal offense and infringement of rights. Thus, if you live in Japan, you should be aware of this fact.

Just like when secretly taking a picture of a noticeable person inside a train or public area, it is considered a violation of privacy

Also, even if you do get approval to take a photo, it is still a different case when uploading it to SNS. If taking a photo is permitted but uploading it to SNS is not, this is considered a breach of privacy.

There are also places where photography or bringing a camera is not allowed. Since there are many museums, concert halls, and movie theaters that prohibit photography, be sure to check for instructions from the institution. Do not take photos or record videos without permission.

In addition, taking photos of the contents of books inside a bookstore without buying them is a breach of etiquette. Be aware of these acts.

To avoid doing a crime and bothering other people, you need to ask for permission from the person first before taking photos or videos. If you need permission to take photographs or videos with your mobile phone/smartphone, do ask the staff for the rules or instructions of the establishment.
