Pop Culture of Japan
One of the globally recognized phenomena is Japanese “pop culture”. “Pop culture” refers to the general culture of the masses and is currently used to define something that is “highly appealing and conveys the image of contemporary Japan”. In Japan’s case, it refers to manga, anime, movies, games, light novels, popular music, television programs, and so on. Aside from introducing a wide variety of works to the world, various events are also held in other countries to show the appeal of Japanese pop culture. A large number of people became interested to Japanese language and its culture through exposure to pop culture art and events. At present, pop culture stands as an important tool to deepen one’s understanding of Japan.
