EMERGENCY MEASURES FOR HEAVY RAIN

Typhoon and heavy rainfall cause huge disasters every year. Pay close attention to the weather forecast reported in television, radio, etc. If you watch or hear any weather forecast about an approaching typhoon, check your emergency supplies again.  

 

• 1.  Preparing the outside of the house

Before the heavy rain or wind gets stronger, do these preparations beforehand:

• Lock the door and the rain shutter door securely.
• Clean the gutters and outlet ports to improve the drainage.

• 2. Preparing the inside of the house
• Prepare emergency supplies

Prepare flashlight, portable radio, emergency medication, clothes, supply of ready-to-eat food (canned goods, dry bread, crackers, etc.), and dry batteries. Collect the supplies and put it inside an emergency bag that you can use to evacuate anytime.  

 

• Preventive measure from inside of a room

During heavy rain, strong winds can occur. Fix items securely in place or put them inside the house in order for it not to be blown away by strong winds.

( If there is a rain shutter door) Close the windowpane if it has rain shutter door.

(If there is no rain shutter door) Stick a security or anti-shattering film on the window. If there is no security film, reinforce the window by taping it with duct tape (vertically, horizontally, and diagonally) to prevent it from shattering. 

 

• Secure your water supply

In preparation for water outage, save water by filling up your bathtub.

 

• Make a water bag(flood bag) to prevent flooding

Filling up half of trash bag with water is a substitute for the sandbag. As water may come out from toilets, bath tubs, or washing machine drains, place this water bag on top of these areas to prevent backflow.

 

In the case of heavy rain, absolutely do not go outside if unnecessary. If you need to go outside, go home as early as possible. Check and verify the evacuation areas around your house or workplace. Evacuate as soon as possible if you feel any danger.
