When Talking to a Japanese Woman, Refrain from Asking her Age Manner
It is said that it is rude to ask women about their age in Japan. Compared to other countries, Japanese people, especially women, care about their age. For a woman in her twenties or younger, she probably would not mind , but for a woman in her mid-twenties or older, it will be quite rude when she is asked about her age. When a woman is asked about her actual age, she becomes very nervous and may wonder for the reason for the question. Thus, it is best to refrain from talking about age in Japan. Also, it would be very rude if a single and older woman was called an aunt (Obasan) instead of an elder sister (Oneesan). When addressing someone, do use “Excuse me” (Sumimasen) or (Shitsureishimasu). Do avoid indecent questions in order to build a comfortable relationship with Japanese female colleagues and acquaintances.
