Natto (Japanese Fermented Soybeans)
Did you know that there is a food called “natto” in Japan?
Japanese people like to eat “natto” a lot. Why do Japanese people like “natto”? That is because “natto” has a high health benefit. “Natto” is made by boiling soybeans in water, treating them with “natto” yeast afterwards, and letting them ferment inside a straw wrapper. From this process, it will contain many vitamins and protein. When eating “natto”, mixing it with egg or soy sauce will enhance its flavor, making it more delicious.
Although this food is rich in vitamins and protein, it has a strong odor and sticky appearance, thus even some Japanese people do not like it. The odor of “natto” (452Au) exceeds that of nuoc mam (390Au). When foreigners eat “natto” for the first time, it can be a surprise.
