Avoid giving Cutlery, Glass, Porcelain Vase, or Mirror as a Gift

Giving cutting tools such as knives or scissors for a wedding is generally considered bad because cutting tools are associated with the Japanese word “kireru”, which means to cut or sever. It implies that you do not want to congratulate the married couple but instead want them to separate. Glass, porcelain vases, and mirrors are taboos as gifts because it is associated with the Japanese words, “wareru”, meaning to break and “fuufu wakare”, meaning the divorce of the married couple.
