Do Not Keep a Pet in a Rental Apartment
In Japan, you cannot keep pets in most of the apartments or rooms. There are various reasons for this one, but we are going to explain common reasons below.
One primary reason is that if you have a pet around, there might be instances when it will scratch the floor, bite the door, or even defecate at the wrong place. Naturally, as the landowner or real estate agency, these actions will cause faster deterioration of the apartment, which is why pets are not allowed.
Just like people, pets can also come with different personalities. For example, if you come across an energetic dog, it may bark or make sounds at night and cause discomfort to you and your neighbors. Pets are banned for this reason as it will trigger some neighbors to file a complaint if annoyed.
Also, do not attempt to keep pets without informing your landlord or real estate broker. If you are caught, you and your pet might be expelled from the house, so it is best not to keep pets at all.
