Hierarchical Relationship in Japan (Senior/Senpai and Junior/ Kouhai)

If you watch Japanese anime, you may often hear the word, Senior/ Senpai. A Senpai is always seen not only in Japanese anime but also in daily Japanese life. There are people called senpai and kouhai in Japanese society. This relationship exists in schools, workplaces and various organizations in Japan. A Senpai is an older person who has experience and has a good set of skills. A Kouhai is a person, especially a young person, who has just started working at a company. A Senpai has the role of teaching a Kouhai regarding the rules about the organization and new techniques. On the contrary, a Kouhai shall remember what his/her Senpai taught and will do his/her best to become a good senpai in the future.
Ask your Japanese or Foreign Senpais to teach you and do your best in your daily living and work in Japan.
